Following Jesus In A Digital Age

If you have spent any meaningful time with me, you probably know that I am pretty suspicious of how technology is shaping our thoughts and lives. Especially with the rapid adoption of AI in recent months, it feels important to keep raising the question “should following Jesus change the way we interact with technology? If so, How?” (Spoiler alert: I think it should… but the how is a little more complicated. Hence this conversation!)

I don’t pretend to be an expert in this field, and I certainly don’t have a one size fits all answer to the above questions, but I do read and think about this topic often. I would love to share some of the research that has come out, ask some hard questions, and leave us with some hope. We know that the tools that we use to navigate everyday life have a strong impact on our worldview, and new “tools” are coming out every year, and we should be prepared to engage with them in a Christlike manner. There will be a short presentation encouraging deeper reflection on how the technology we use shapes our lives, followed by some Q&A/discussion!

I am a youth pastor at heart, so a substantial part of our discussion will revolve around the effects of digital media on our children. However, a growing body of research is showing that adults are strongly affected too, so we will spend some time reflecting on that as well.
